Currently I should be writing up an assignment but due to procrastination, I thought I would share my five tips on how to complete an assignment effectively.
I never used to plan my essays, I had a general guideline and I just went off with that. However, recently I have been planning my essays and have realised how much easier and efficient it is. Not only does it allow me to assess my essay in a more structured way, it also allows for all these ideas to bounce off one another creating a very cohesive essay.
I mean structure in two aspects.
1. Make sure the assignment overall is very well structured with all the paragraphs flowing from one to another.
2. Make sure you structure each of those paragraphs as well. Each institution and course have their own guidelines on how to structure your paragraphs well but I tend to stick to the simplest form which is point, evidence and analyse.
Every institution has their own guidelines on how to reference, what system to use and whether or not referencing is included into the word count. At my university, referencing is included in the word count of the essay so I prefer to do this as I go along. This allows me to check my word count as i'm going along as opposed to writing everything down, leaving referencing to last and once its done, realised I've gone over the word count. Cutting down an essay is a lot of stress because you don't know what sections to keep in and what to take out so its best to avoid getting into that situation.
Always make a rough draft copy of your essay first. Again, I was the type of person who would want it perfect from start to finish without the need of a draft. However, recently I've been just writing down all the core of my essay and then going over again and again to really perfect it.
This seems like the most boring task in the world and I'm sure no one wants to do it. Personally, when I'm finished with an essay I just want to submit it to get it out my way. But I do recommend reading it over and over again. I wouldn't advise skim reading because you might miss out on grammar mistakes or referencing mistakes which I'm sure you wouldn't want to lose marks over. Instead, I would advise reading it really thoroughly to make sure that everything makes sense, there is no grammar mistakes and that you have referenced everything.
And that sums up all my assignment tips! I know these tips sound so simple but its these are the things that I usually tend to get lazy on.

Thank you for reading and I hope that I have helped some of you!
